Funded PhD

Funded PhD

We are looking for outstanding candidates for a PhD within the project "The geometry of conjugation invariant norms on groups" funded by The Leverhulme Trust.

There are two fully funded studentships:

Symplectic geometry. The PhD project will be concerned with symplectic geometry and Hamiltonian actions on symplectic manifolds. The ultimate goal of the PhD will be to describe restrictions on faithful Hamiltonian actions. This project is suitable for a student with good background and interests in, broadly understood, differential geometry and dynamical systems.

Group theory. The PhD project will be concerned with group theoretic applications of conjugation invariant norms. The applications will deal with algebraic groups, finite groups and Lie groups.  This project is suitable for a student with good background and interest in group theory and geometry.

J. Kędra, A.Libman and B.Martin will be involved in the supervision of these phd projects. The funding is restricted to UK/EU candidates only.
