Title: Green Hydrogen projects in rural Angus and elsewhere: Potential impacts of intermittency and constrained grids
Abstract: A steady flow of projects incorporating Green Hydrogen based in eastern Scotland have been proposed over the past decade. Although few have reached completion, commercial interest in advancing this technology, particularly in a rural context, is evident. Here we review several of these projects; their scope, system architectures and progress toward goals. Hybrid (wind and solar) electricity driving electrolysers over private wires has proved a popular theme. In rural areas, grid connections are often constrained and supply intermittency may become particularly challenging. As an illustration, we analyse hydrogen refuelling of HGVs as a proposed application, and discuss data-driven approaches towards load mitigation.
