Live Electronics: From Expressive Aim to Musical Act

Live Electronics: From Expressive Aim to Musical Act I have always composed with electronics - mostly live electronics, working with instrumentalists and singers. But I enjoy working on studio pieces, too, although I always want to preserve a feeling of ‘liveness’ in these works. For me the technology is a means to help express something - in fact a range of things. My technique has evolved slowly in an interactive relationship with new ideas that the developing technology suggests as well as with the performer and performance practice. Taking examples from almost forty five years of composing I shall try to show how these relationships have evolved. That is, how does my expressive aim become a musical act? I will in addition focus in greater detail on some key works that we shall hear in the evening concert - and try to show how the musical aims are mapped to the score and electronic processes in composition as well as how performance practice completes the task.
