The Sir Duncan Rice Library is a 21st century space for learning and research. It houses the largest of the University's modern collections and historic collections of rare books, manuscripts and archives in the Special Collections Centre on the Ground Floor.
The building is open to the public, as well as staff and students. The Gallery displays changing exhibitions, largely drawn fiorm the University's rare book and archive collections. The Hardback Cafe is also open to everyone.
The building, designed by Danish architects schmidt hammer lassen was conceived to mark the ice and light of the north.
