Ferran Adrià received a doctorate honoris causa in Modern Thought in July 2009. A lunch, hosted by The Centre for Modern Thought was organized at Fyvie Castle, and featured an interview with Adrià. As Adrià explained in the course of what became a veritable “master class” in modern cuisine over a two-day visit, Aberdeen’s gesture of awarding him an honorary doctorate represented the first academic award of this kind for the work of a chef (other institutions crowded in soon thereafter!).
