There are a few keys things that previous students have recommend you take with you on your elective. This is not an exhaustive list and will be dependent on what your project is and where you are going
- Stethoscope and ophthalmoscope*
- Oxford handbooks of clinical medicine and specialties*
- BNF*
- Old trainers (theatre shoes)*
- Lonely plant guidebook
- Torch/ candles and matches
- Gifts*: eg pens/ crayons and paper if paediatrics placement
- Keep fit things (it may not be safe or practical to go for a run)
- Radio
- Loo paper
- Alarm clock
- Laptop/ datastick
- Contact information for UK
- Any data/ websites/ textbooks/ electives handbook
You may wish to consider leaving some of these items (*) as gifts for your hosts.
