Migration of Aberdeen University's digital collections to new asset manager

Aberdeen University's digitised theses, photographic collections, exam papers, manuscripts and other assets have been moved to a new platform.

Over the past year the University of Aberdeen’s digital collections, records and assets have been successfully migrated from our previous digital asset manager, DigiTool to our new digital asset manager,
Alma-D.

This involved the migration of 7 separate collections into Alma-D, comprising 118,000 digital objects and their metadata. These collections include archives, manuscripts, photographs, museum objects and works of art, as well as modern collections such as exam papers and recent theses. The collections are also discoverable via Primo

Primo provides improved user access to our digital assets in Alma-D, as well as a unified discovery interface which simplifies the user journey.

The revamped digital collections can be accessed here and can also be accessed via the Digital Collections tab on the main Primo interface.

The Project Team have worked tirelessly with our supplier, Ex Libris to get to this stage. This was a major achievement as much of the work was innovative and sector-leading, due to the size and complexity of our digital collections.

Further enhancements are scheduled to be rolled out in 2021.

If you have any queries about our digital collections or Alma-D, please contact the Library team at library@abdn.ac.uk
