Main Theme: Rethinking the Law

This year, the theme of the conference is "Rethinking the Law". We are currently witnessing enormous changes in many aspects of society, and the law is one area which is not immune to these changes. We are asking for presenters to send abstracts which would broadly fit into one of the three conference sub-themes:

Sub-Theme 1) Rethinking the Law on Technology

The recent rapid change in technology is perhaps one of the most unprecedented transformations in history. It opens up many possibilities that the law needs to address. Discussions may look at, for example: the intellectual property rights of technologies, the criminal liability of self-driving cars, or the rights of future (self-conscious?) robots. Principally, we are looking for presenters who critically analyse existing laws related to technologies and/or perhaps issues that this ever-changing field may experience in the coming years.

Sub-Theme 2) Rethinking the Law on Energy and the Environment

Both domestic and international laws are aiming at addressing wide-spread environmental issues whilst also coping with the increasing demand of energy. We are looking for presenters to critically analyse these dynamic fields and reconsider the current position of energy and environmental laws and how these might be impacted in the future.

Sub-Theme 3) Rethinking the Law within an Interdisciplinary Approach

The use of and advantages in interdisciplinary research has become more important in the analysis of the law. We welcome presentations from researchers applying principles and approaches adopted from other disciplines. These could be from the fields of business, international relations, economics, politics, history, and/or IT. We also welcome post-graduates from any discipline. If you are doing research in another field and have worked with legal aspects related to your research, we encourage you to apply.
