Biography

Olivia joined the School of Law as a Lecturer in February 2013.  She specialises in renewable energy law and environmental law.  Olivia worked at the Groningen Centre of Energy Law (of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands) between 2011 and 2013 as the coordinator of a research project concerned with the formulation of legal frameworks for offshore grid development in the North Sea (in collaboration with the Delft University of Technology).  She also conducted research at Groningen into the challenges presented to existing European Union and Member State regulations for electricity transmission and distribution systems by their increased use for transmitting and distributing energy from renewable sources.  Olivia undertook and completed a PhD in law at University College London between 2007 and 2012.  Her doctoral research was concerned with the protection of ecosystem functionality, and her thesis presents proposals for a system of governance and associated legal frameworks that seek to preserve this.  Ecological Governance: Reappraising Law's Role in Protecting EcosystemFunctionality, a book based on her doctoral research, was published by Cambridge University Press in hardback in November 2014 and as a paperback in November 2016.
