Nicole Hampson Loen awarded the Sir Ian Good Leadership Award (SIGLA)

Congratulations to Nicole Hampson Loen, fourth year LLB (Hons) Law student, who was recently awarded the Sir Ian Good Leadership Award (SIGLA).

In addition, to receiving the Sir Ian Good Leadership Award (SIGLA) Nicole is also a recipient of the Roberston Trust Scholarship. Nicole has participated in the Robertson Trust's 'Journey to Success' scholarship programme since her first year at the University of Aberdeen.

The Robertson Trust Scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated exceptional academic potential, but who may not necessarily have the means to get the most out of University Education. In addition to financial support, the bursary entails a dedicated training and mentoring programme titled the 'Journey to Success'. Designed to help scholars develop the self-awareness needed to market their skills effectively; plus the programme delivers a series of workshops each academic year.

Each year, four or five candidates who have engaged well with the Trust, throughout their time on the Journey to Success programme, are awarded the prestigious Sir Ian Good Leadership Award (SIGLA), named after the Life President of the Trust, Sir Ian Good. The programme is designed to develop the leadership skills of the participants; help them focus on being successful in their chosen career and enable them to be confident and skilled communicators and networkers. As part of the award the candidates receive targeted mentoring; providing support and guidance in planning their career which allows reflection on their personal and leadership development; accessing helpful contacts and through business networking events and dinners. Although other scholars have received a SIGLA, Nicole is the only scholar who is to be personally mentored by Sir Ian Good.

Currently, in her final year and thinking about future plans Nicole says:

“Although the financial award has made my time at University possible, the most beneficial aspect of my scholarship has been the comprehensive personal development programmes on offer. I have completed an internship with the Development Trust and most recently, with the international law firm CMS. These opportunities would not have been possible if it had not been for the confidence and transferable skills I gained throughout the 'Journey to Success' programme....The Robertson Trust has helped me reach my full potential, and in turn, they are making my ambitions my reality.”
