As a team, David Thomson, Alessia Cucchi, Daisy Lockhart, and Wyon Sandells, began our learning over the Christmas break with our coach, Patrick Achor, who has significant long-standing expertise in this field. This provided us with significant insights into mediation as an Alternative Dispute Resolution Method, and was followed by a detailed breakdown and analysis of how mediations are conducted, and how we should incorporate…

In 2019, I assessed the UK’s Climate Change Act 2008 for the publisher Palgrave, just after the framework’s 10th anniversary.1 Here, I found that this extensive Westminster statute remained nationally important and even internationally pioneering; but I also highlighted that the Scottish Parliament had pushed the envelope of progressive climate governance even further. This was achieved through passage of the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009.
The national Climate Change Act 2008 mandated a 34% reduction in UK greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, measured from 1990 emissions levels. The Scottish Parliament’s 2009 Act ramped this…

Let’s start with the academic side (mostly so that the university is happy I’ve written something educational first!). In Helsinki, I only have one or two lectures per class a week, and attendance is very strict; some of my classes fail you if you miss more than one lecture, and most require at least 75% attendance to pass. Despite having fewer lectures, the workload feels heavier thanks to the extensive readings…

In said paper, I investigated the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Supplementary Act on Renewable Energy Development (ESAREP) 2013 and whether this framework has fostered growth in the region’s renewable energy sector. I further examine the effectiveness of this framework and its progress in attaining its objective within the ECOWAS context, with my findings shared below.
