On 16 and 17 July, we made several changes to your University email address and Office 365 login credentials.

If you registered as a an undergraduate or taught postgraduate student with the University of Aberdeen before 5 June 2019, here’s what you need to know.

In brief..

  • The Outlook login has changed 
  • To login to Outlook, and other Office 365 services 
    • Use your username@abdn.ac.uk, for example u01jb19@abdn.ac.uk  
    • Don’t forget to update your Favourites or Bookmarks! 
  • Your email address has changed  
    • Your email address is now in the format jo.bloggs2.19@abdn.ac.uk 

Dont see all your data?

Please note that any emails sent to you between Friday 12 July and the morning of 16 July were not initially moved to your new @abdn.ac.uk inbox. However, those emails are not lost and should be transferred to your inbox by 5pm on Thursday 18 July.

In addition, due to the volume of data being migrated there might be a delay in your OneDrive for Business files appearing.

What has happened?

We moved student email to the same environment as staff email. This has standardised login identities and offers more opportunities for you to collaborate with staff in Microsoft Office 365 apps such as SharePoint and OneDrive for Business.

Who has been affected?

All undergraduate and taught postgraduate students who registered with the University of Aberdeen before 5 June 2019.

Research postgraduate students are unaffected.

What’s changed?

Your email address has changed format, as shown in the example below:

New format jo.bloggs2.19@abdn.ac.uk
Old format jo.bloggs2.19@aberdeen.ac.uk

The way you log into email (Outlook) and other Office 365 services has changed

Instead of logging in using your University email address, you must login using username@abdn.ac.uk. For example:

New login u01jb19@abdn.ac.uk

The Outlook URL has changed

The new Outlook URL is https://outlook.com/abdn.ac.uk

Note: Don’t forget to update your browser bookmarks/favourites!

Email for Life discontinued

The Email for Life (EFL) service has been withdrawn. This means that the email accounts of students graduating from 2020 onwards will be closed along with their IT accounts. 

What’s not changed?

Your username– e.g. u01jb19 – remains the same, so the way that you login to other services such as MyAberdeen, Student Hub, and classroom PCs has not changed.

Your password is also unaffected.

When did this happen?

Student accounts were migrated on 16 and 17 July.

What do you I need to do?

Now that your account has been moved:

  • Use your username@abdn.ac.uk to login to your University email and other Office 365 services
  • Log into your University email at https://outlook.com/abdn.ac.uk
  • If you sync your University email to your mobile device, you will need to reconfigure your mail client using username@abdn.ac.uk. See our Toolkit Email resource for guidance.
  • If you have previously registered to use the password reset service, you will need to re-register, using your username@abdn.ac.uk to login.
  • If you have installed a free copy of Microsoft Office on your device, you will be prompted for your new credentials, i.e. username@abdn.ac.uk
  • Let external contacts know about your change of email address – for example, if you have used your University email address to authenticate external online services, or if you subscribe to external mailing lists.
I don’t see all my data. Why is that?

Your Office 365 mailbox (messages, calendar events, etc.) have been migrated to the new environment.

However...

What if someone sends an email to my old email address?

Don’t worry. Emails sent to your old address format will be automatically rerouted to your new address.
