Email Service Issues - Thursday 27th October 2011

Intermittent issue with connecting to email

What is happening?

We experienced a problem with one of our email servers around 10am this morning.  This prevented some users from connecting to Exchange, sending and receiving email.  Email is now functioning again and DIT Service Engineers are continuing to investigate the root cause.

Most non delivered email will automatically be resent over the course of the day and emails awaiting delivery will filter through to those affected.

What should you do?

If you have received a Non Delivery Report (NDR) Warning, please do not resend any emails. These will have been placed in a queue and will be automatically resent once they reach the top of the queue.

If you have received a Non Delivery Report (NDR) Failure, you will need to resend this email.

If you are unsure, please contact the DIT Service Desk, who will be able to assist you in determining whether you need to resend the email or not. As our system is configured to automatically resend emails up to 72 hours after the initial send, it is unlikely that you will have received a NDR Failure.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
