Email Service Issues - Friday 30 October 2009

We are currently experiencing problems with one of our email servers.  This will prevent some users from sending and receiving email.

What is happening?

Early yesterday evening we began to experience problems with one of our email servers.  This had the effect of preventing some users from sending and receiving email.  Some users may have received “Non Delivery Reports” as a direct result of this.  DIT Engineers have been working on the resolution of this overnight and repairing a corrupted information store.  There continues to be intermittent issues and we are keeping a close eye on this whilst resolving the underlying problem.  Once the problem is resolved most non delivered email will automatically be resent and emails awaiting delivery will filter through to those affected.

What should you do?

If you have received a Non Delivery Report (NDR) Warning, please do not resend any emails. These will have been placed in a queue and will be automatically resent once they reach the top of the queue.

If you have received a Non Delivery Report (NDR) Failure, you will need to resend this email.

If you are unsure, please contact the DIT Service Desk, who will be able to assist you in determining whether you need to resend the email or not.

As our system is configured to automatically resend emails up to 72 hours after the initial send, it is unlikely that you will have received a NDR Failure.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Should you have any other concerns or queries please do not hesitate to contact the DIT Service Desk:
