- Arriving by car
For students arriving by car, an online route planner is available via Red Planet Travel to help you find directions to your accommodation. You may also wish to check out Google maps which will also be able to give you detailed information.
If you're driving to Aberdeen, the following information will be useful for sat-navs and route finders:
- University postcode - AB24 3FX
- Hillhead postcode - AB24 1WU
Please note that car parking is very limited and as such, you will be unable to park on the King's Campus during working hours between Monday and Friday. During these hours, you will be allowed to drop items at the Halls of Residence but will have to park off-campus. There is no desginated resident parking on campus at Crombie, Johnston, Elphinstone Road Flats, or King's Hall. There is limited resident parking at Hillhead Halls of Residence. - Arriving by air
Aberdeen airport is very easy to navigate and airport staff will be on hand to help if you have any problems. More information can be found on the Aberdeen Airport website.
The airport is located in Dyce, about 7 miles from the centre of Aberdeen. There's a taxi rank at the airport, and a fare from the airport to the University or Halls of Residence will cost £25-£35, depending upon where you are staying.
Alternatively you can take the regular Jet (727) bus service to Aberdeen Bus Station (travel time is around 35 minutes). The timetable for the Jet Service is available on the Stagecoach website. For directions from the Bus Station to your Halls of Residence, see below.
- Arriving by coach/bus or train
Fast coach and train services link Aberdeen with the UK's major cities such as Edinburgh, Glasgow and London. For more information on coach timetables and prices, visit the National Express website or the Megabus website, where tickets are available for as little as £1. For more information on train timetables and prices, visit the National Rail website or the Trainline. In general, tickets are cheaper when bought in advance and out with peak times. The Aberdeen Bus/Coach Station and Train Station are linked together by Union Square Shopping Centre, in the city centre. The taxi rank is situated within the Train Station. Taxi fares cost approximately £15 to King's Collge Campus and £25 to Hillhead Halls of Residence.
- Local Bus Information
From the bus station, walk to Union Street or Broad Street, journey time approximately 8 minutes. Catch First Bus number 20 direct to the Halls. Note that First Bus operate an exact-change policy. Visit the First Bus website for timetables for City buses, including the number 20.
Crombie-Johnston, Kings and Elphinstone Halls
From the bus station, take the Stagecoach Bluebird bus number 60, 61, 63, 67 or 68 to the University Road stop, journey time approximately 7 minutes. Walk onto Regent Walk to get to the centre of campus. Alternatively, you could walk to Union Street or Broad Street from the station, journey time approximately 8 minutes. Catch First Bus number 20 direct to the Halls. Note that First Bus operate an exact-change policy. Visit the Stagecoach website for timetables for buses operating from the bus station. Visit the First Bus website for timetables for other City buses, including the number 20.
From the bus station, take the Stagecoach Bluebird bus number 60, 61, 63, 67 or 68 to Mealmarket Street or the Jasmine Terrace stop for Firestation & Spring Garden. Please note that Spring Garden is a 6 minute walk from the Jasmine Terrace stop. Visit the Stagecoach website for timetables for buses operating from the bus station.
