Sport Buddy Scheme

Registration Open. Closing date: 28 September

We all know that physical health is an essential part of a student's overall wellbeing. It not only contributes to a student's fitness but can also help them benefit from better mental health and focus for study. This year, the University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen Sports Village (ASV) and the Sports Union is introducing a new buddy scheme to inspire students to be more active and meet new friends. The pilot programme will kick off in October and run until the BUCS Women in sport campaign in November, a female focused week of action, engaging universities across the country to run a range of activity to support women in sport. Through the scheme we will introduce students to a sport savvy buddy who will encourage them to participate in sport and physical activities.

The project has been developed to help support students who may feel intimidated or less comfortable in participating in sporting activity or using the gym, as everything can feel very daunting for first year students. We are not asking you to provide technical advice or support, just to help them feel more comfortable about getting involved with sport or exercise.

All participants will receive a goodie bag and free passes to ASV.

Interested? We are recruiting Sport Savvy and Recreation Rookies now! Which one are you?

Sport Savvy - students who are willing to help a first year female student get involved in sporting life at the University of Aberdeen. If you are a student member of ASV OR as a sport club member this is for you!

Recreation Rookie - Students who do not participate regularly in physical activity but want to.

Register your interest now: https://app.geckoform.com/public/#/modern/11FO00fipeu9tf09zt0ca2dnu. As this is a pilot programme, places are for female students only and places are limited. If successful, the scheme will be rolled out to everyone.
