Systems Physiology

The goal of our programme is to bring together and advance the fields of basic and applied physiology, pharmacology, endocrinology, biochemistry and drug discovery by collaborating on novel biomedical research projects. Together with Aberdeen Cardiovascular and Diabetes Centre, our programme staff and their teams perform cutting edge research into physiological and molecular links between body mass regulation, energy expenditure, glucose and lipid homeostasis; molecular mechanisms that underlie the development and progression of pulmonary arterial hypertension; environmental and genetic determinants of embryonic development; ageing associated alteration in insulin sensitivity, cognition and locomotion; stem cell targeted therapies, imaging and drug discovery.
