Psychological neuroscience

Psychological neuroscience combines psychology (the scientific study of behaviour) with studies on the neural circuits that underpin behaviour. Psychological neuroscience works at many ‘levels of description’ in Aberdeen, from researchers who investigate brain cells through to scientists who measure how humans control their movements and perceive the world. These investigations are helping us understand why behaviour changes as the brain ages, why some people experience psychiatric problems and what happens when different areas of the brain become damaged.

The Aberdeen neuroscientists explore different medical treatments, from drug therapy for patients with psychiatric disorders through to robotic therapy for patients with stroke
