The Orthopaedic clinical and basic science research groups are located on two sites in the city. Orthopaedic trauma is based at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary at Foresterhill and elective surgery is performed at Woodend Hospital. Research is carried out on both sites with the main laboratories in the Institute of Medical Sciences, also on the Foresterhill site.
We are part of the Musculoskeletal Programme, a multidisciplinary research group which has been consistently highly rated in past research assessments.
Our staff working on basic science are Professor Richard Aspden, Dr. Jenny Gregory, Dr. Rebecca Barr, Dr. Fiona Saunders, Dr. Rachel White and PhD students Aysha Khalid, Anastasia Pavlova and Anna Cederlund.
Our main clinical staff involved in research are orthopaedic surgeons, Professor James Hutchison, Regius Chair of Surgery, and Mr. Patrick Ashcroft, Clinical Senior Lecturer.
