Our broad interest is to understand how cell-cell signalling molecules establish the spatial pattern of the vertebrate nervous system, particularly in development of neuronal connections. The correct functioning of the nervous system critically depends on the precise formation of neuronal connections, which are initially set up during development by axon guidancecues. Our previous work has identified some of the developmental axon guidance cues and their receptors. We are investigating their functions and signaling mechanisms in neuronal network formation, by using a broad range of approaches including molecular, cellular, biochemical, and in vivo studies.
