Biography

Professor Denison is a medical graduate of University of Aberdeen. He was awarded a personal chair (teaching & scholarship) in 2015 and was MBChB Programme Lead and Deputy Director of the Institute of Education in Medical and Dental Education from 2015 to 2019.

In 2019 he was appointed as Dean of Postgraduate Medicine, NHS Education for Scotland (NES). NES is a special health board that oversees the education and training of the workforce in the Scottish NHS, including over 6000 doctors in training programmes.

He remains clinically active as a Consultant Radiologist, NHS Grampian, teaches on the PG Cert/Dip/Masters in Clinical Education, and contributes to a range of other undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. 

His current other roles include:

1. Team Leader, General Medical Council Undergraduate Education Associate 

2. Member of Council and Chair of Professional Standards Committee, Academy of Medical Educators

3. Member, Conference of Postgraduate Medical Deans, with UK oversight responsibilities for Renal, Virology, Microbiology and combined infection training. COPMED lead for GMC Curriculum Advisory Group.

4. Lead, GMC Credential in Rural and Remote Health

5. Lead Dean, Trainee Support and Wellbeing, NES
