Support our Research

Lab workersPreclinical research is costly but is vital for advances, cures and treatment. With the appearance of new pathogens and environmental hazards, absence of monetary support would cause clinical care to deteriorate. The government is dedicated to research and each year allocates significant funding to the IMS. However, the amount is still below that which is needed. The equipment used to explore deep into single cells and map out the shape and functions of molecules is expensive. The time required to raise monies for such devices slows the speed and time dedicated to research.

The University of Aberdeen takes pride in being a broad-based research-intensive university with areas of particular excellence across a diverse range of studies. It is recognised across the world as a leading centre of medical research. The University is home to international scientists working at the frontier of our understanding of cancer, cardiovascular disease, infections, arthritis, eye disease, Alzheimer's Disease and other brain degenerative disorders, diabetes, spinal cord injury, bone disease, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis and others. Their research aims to improve prevention and find better ways to treat and care for those affected by these diseases.

Our supporters both locally and across the world have been vital to our success. With your help, University researchers can continue to find the treatments and cures that will benefit all our communities for generations to come. The University's scientists and doctors are grateful to individuals and organisations who wish to help develop and extend our portfolio of cutting-edge research:

  • £10 - 100 will purchase essential lab supplies
  • £1000 pounds will buy equipment such as sophisticated cameras or centrifuges
  • £80,000 pounds will fund a PhD student for four years of training and research
