The documents to be found below are the result of a collaborative process, informed by staff from from across the whole Institute and also other local research organisations. Initial versions were produced in response to the requirements contained within the document Research Governance Framework for Health and Community Care, produced by the then Scottish Executive Health Department and adopted by the CSO. We have been working within this framework since 1 April 2004. These documents also fulfil the requirements of other funding and professional bodies.
Our documents are subject to regular ongoing review, and are changed in response to changing regulations, needs and circumstances. I would therefore like to emphasise that these are current versions of policy documents. One important source of review is feedback from users, and I would be delighted to receive such feedback and to answer any queries that might arise.

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are detailed, written instructions to achieve uniformity of the performance of a specific function. As sponsors and hosts of clinical research, the University of Aberdeen and NHS Grampian have legal responsibilities regarding the oversight and management of studies.
To find out more and view a range of SOPs designed to guide investigators and researchers to ensure that studies are conducted and reported in compliance with GCP, regulatory requirements and research governance frameworks, visit the University of Aberdeen/NHS Grampian research governance SOP web page.
