ADRC Scotland ready for business
ADRC Scotland is now ready to offer researchers new opportunities by accredited, approved research in the UK. As part of the UK Administrative Data Research Network, our Scottish area of social and economic research.
The Network will provide:
- A UK-wide service that is being governed independently, legally and transparently
- An independent Approvals Panel for all applications that will include lay members who will reflect the public’s interests
- Privacy protection by having the requested data matched by a Trusted Third Party (TTP)
- Expert staff who will safeguard data security by applying mandatory statistical checks for statistical disclosure control so that all research findings released are safe
- Accessible nationwide safe havens for accredited researchers to analyse data
The Scottish Context
Led by the University of Edinburgh, the Administrative Data Research Centre Scotland (ADRC Scotland) is one of four UK Centres within the larger Network.
We will:
- Facilitate the effective use of a wealth of existing valuable data resources for research that benefits the public good
- Encourage research projects that have the potential to inform government policy and decision-making
- Contribute to the Scottish Government’s drive for a Wealthier and Fairer Scotland
- Enhance Scotland’s research standing in the international arena of big data and data linkage.
Facilities for researchers
Our Centre involves leading experts in the theory, methods and policy of linking records for secondary uses, including:
- Public engagement, ethics, information governance and law
- Linking and analysing large datasets
- Geocoding, natural language processing and machine learning
- Crime and criminal justice, education and social services
We can offer a single point of contact to assist researchers in study design, approvals and data access in a secure environment. Our team will help make conducting research easier, more efficient and more convenient.
