On 15 January, HRH the Princess Royal formally opened Farr @ Dundee. Professor John Connell, Vice-Principal for Research at the University and Head of the College of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing, said: “We are delighted that HRH the Princess Royal has joined us to open the Farr Institute and also to recognise the tremendous work done by Tenovus as a charity supporting valuable medical research across Scotland.
“The University has been a pioneer in the use of electronic health records to support medical research in the UK, working closely with NHS Tayside and Tenovus. An initial grant from Tenovus of a few thousand pounds over 20 years ago has grown into this facility we see in Dundee today and a £30 million eHealth network across the UK.”

Industry Forum, 16 December
Held in London, this brought together academic and NHS health informatics researchers from the Farr Institute and leaders in the use of real-world evidence from the Pharmaceutical Industry. The aim was to help deepen and expand already established links and help the UK attract research investment from global pharmaceutical companies.
In PersonThis month, we're saying hello to Paul McIntosh, who has recently joined the Farr @ Scotland team in Dundee, providing administration and communications support. |
What’s your role in Farr?
I've got a background in graphic design, IT training and administration. I worked with Scottish Diabetes Research Network for around eight years and was responsible for the smooth running of the National Office including financial administration, communication including web and social media, meeting/events organisation among a range of other tasks.
What do you do when you're not at Farr?
I'm currently studying Service Design Methodology, which applies 'design thinking' too the service industries. This will hopefully give me applicable tools for simplifying current processes and generating new ideas for organisational gain. When I'm not doing that, like to relax by going fly fishing and watching Dundee FC with my two sons.
