Details of the UK HIRN Chief Scientific Officer and Industry Engagement Manager positions

The UK Health Informatics Research Network is looking to recruit a Chief Scientific Officer and an Industry Engagement Manager. This is a fantastic opportunity for two high calibre motivated individuals to promote, develop and manage research and innovation collaborations with the UK Farr Institute of Health Informatics Research and the UK Health Informatics Research Network (UK HIRN). These are high profile roles with major UK wide responsibilities which require the ability to liaise effectively with senior leaders across the network and our partners.  

The two positions will be employed through the Farr Institute at the University of Edinburgh but the successful candidates can be based at any one of the four Farr Centres as the roles have UK wide responsibilities requiring travel throughout the UK to develop and maintain effective working links between the UK HIRN, government and charity organisations and Industry.

Senior Research Fellow – Chief Scientific Officer

This post is open to applicants with basic science or clinical backgrounds.  Experience within the field of health informatics and public health research is highly desirable.  The holder will be expected to have led an internationally competitive research programme relating to the field of electronic record based research and data linkage across health and social databases to deliver healthcare improvement.  Specific topics of interest include methodology for data linkage, access and analysis, use of routinely collected data for research purposes, public engagement and research governance. The post holder will need to be an individual with a proven track record at the interface between academia, NHS and industry partners.

Industry Engagement Manager

This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual to promote, develop and manage commercial collaborations with the UK Farr Institute of Health Informatics Research and the UK Health Informatics Research Network. This is a high profile role with combined engagement and business development function, a UK-wide remit and significant autonomy to innovate. The work will build the links between NHS, Industry and Academia attracting commercial funding for the Farr Institute and the UK HIRN. The post holder will need to be an individual with significant cross-sector collaborative experience, ideally between academia, NHS and industry partners and must be able to liaise effectively with senior leaders across the Network and commercial partners.
