Methods group on evidence from economic evaluation

 BACK

Summary

Traditionally, systematic reviews have concentrated on the synthesis of clinical effectiveness; however, as the NHS is characterised by scarce resources, decision makers require not only to consider clinical effectiveness but also cost effectiveness. The Economics Method Group (a methods group for the Cochrane Collaboration, which is a methods group for the Campbell Collaborations), was, therefore, established to provide guidance to reviewers on the most appropriate methods of incorporating economic evaluation into their systematic reviews. The specific aims of the Group are to 1) develop and disseminate methods for reviewing trials with economic elements, and for generating economic evaluation from reviews of effectiveness; 2) facilitate discussion of methods for economists involved with Cochrane and Campbell reviews; 3) provide links for Cochrane and Campbell Review Groups with economists and to 4) conduct workshops and discussions on economic issues and methods relevant to the aims of the Cochrane and Campbell Collaborations. Further information about the Economic Methods Group can be found at its website: www.med.uea.ac.uk/research/research_econ/cochrane/cochrane_home.htm
