NCCHTA Technology Assessment Review Group (TARS)

Summary

The aim of this review group is to provide rapid reviews of the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of alternative health technologies for specific conditions. The Unit has been commissioned to conduct up to two reviews a year. The systematic reviews will be used to determine the clinical effectiveness of the interventions under investigation for a number of pre-specified outcomes, which will depend upon the nature of the research question. This data will then be used to assess relative efficiency using a modelling exercise. The first seven review topics (metal on metal resurfacing for people with hip disease, home haemodialysis for management of end-stage renal failure, tension-free vaginal tape for treatment of stress incontinence, myocardial perfusion scintigraphy for the diagnosis and management of angina and myocardial infarction, laparoscopic surgery for inguinal hernia repair; healozone for the prevention of dental caries; laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer) have been completed.
