Biography

Samantha Wileman joined the Unit in October 1997, as a Research Fellow on the Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) study; a randomised trial to evaluate the effectiveness of light therapy in primary care.

She graduated from Reading University in 1992 in Biochemistry and Physiology, and gained a PhD in Physiology from King's College, London in 1996. She followed this with her first post-doctoral position, jointly in the departments of Ophthalmology and Molecular & Cell Biology at University of Aberdeen.

Since then, she has worked in HSRU as the trial co-ordinator on the REFLUX trial, a national multicentre trial that aims to look at the best form of treatment for gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD). She is currently the HSRU and CHaRT quality assurance (QA) manager and takes responsibility for developing robust QA systems, integrating them in to the Units current best working practices.
