Summary
Screening for diabetes is not currently NHS policy but the UK National Screening Committee (NSC) was to review this during 2005. Since the Diabetes National Service Framework was published in 2001, and the DH/MRC research review in 2002, further research has been published. This project ensured that the NSC can draw on the most up to date evidence in its policy review. The evidence synthesis systematically reviewed the recent research on screening for type 2 diabetes to report on the effectiveness of screening in defined groups of patients, cost effectiveness studies that have been carried out and the cost/QALY of such screening modelled.
