The latest HERU Policy Brief discusses the cost-effectiveness of two treatments for primary inguinal hernia. The Policy Brief is based on a systematic review of the evidence comparing open pre-peritoneal mesh repair and standard Lichtenstein mesh repair. The findings suggest that open pre-peritoneal mesh repair is a safe and efficacious option and that it may offer substantial cost-savings to the NHS.
