Ukraine

As the situation in Ukraine becomes ever more desperate, we must do what is right to support those who have been displaced due to Putin’s war.

Millions of innocent people have fled their homes, leaving behind family, work, and their education.  Bright and talented students have been forced not only to live through an unspeakable humanitarian crisis, but they have also had their dreams of a safe education and better future taken from them.

But you can help change the future for Ukrainian students and scholars* by making a gift to the Student & Scholar Sanctuary Fund today.

We have pledged to waive fees, offer free accommodation, and provide pastoral support for undergraduate and postgraduate students who have been displaced from Ukraine. Full details on the support availability, qualifying criteria and how to apply can be seen here. But they still need your help.

These new members of the Aberdeen family will be arriving scared and grief-stricken. You can offer them comfort and assurance that the University of Aberdeen will remain a safe and supportive refuge during these distressing times.

Your donation can:

  • Provide basic necessities, such as toiletries, clothing and bedding
  • Purchase computer equipment such as laptops, which are essential to continue studies and catch up on course work.
  • Help new students communicate with their displaced family and friends across the world with a replacement mobile phone
  • Ensure brilliant researchers continue their important work by allowing them to work in safety
  • Support those who are unable to return home this summer by providing bursaries

Our founding principle is to ensure the University of Aberdeen is “open to all”. Devastating recent events have shown again and again how important this principle is. As a member of the Aberdeen family, I hope that you agree, and will join us to make the University of Aberdeen a safe haven for those seeking sanctuary.

Your donation of any size will make a difference. Please help students displaced by the war on Ukraine today.
