Scholars' Reception recognises University donors

Scholars' Reception recognises University donors

The generosity of scholarship and bursary donors who give to the University of Aberdeen will be recognised at an event this evening (Tuesday April 24).

Now in its tenth year, the annual Scholars’ Reception gives students who have benefited from a scholarship the opportunity to meet with their donors and fellow scholarship recipients.

The University currently administers 316 scholarships totalling £3.2million. This figure has increased by 19% in the last year.

Over 70 guests - including donors, academic staff and scholars themselves - will attend the reception which aims to raise awareness of the importance of scholarships and how they change the lives of talented students. A further reception will take place later in the year aimed specifically at corporate donors and the scholars they support.

Professor Ian Diamond, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen will speak alongside Emma Clyne, recipient of the W Robin Low Scholarship at the event which takes place in the institution’s new Library.

Professor Diamond said: “The Scholars' Reception is an opportunity for the University of Aberdeen to thank our donors for their generosity, express our pride in our scholars and the work of our staff.

“Universities contribute to the good of society in many ways - but helping people to fulfil their potential is the most important contribution that we can make. The investment of individuals and companies in establishing scholarships is not only an investment in one talented individual – it is also an investment in this University and the society it serves.”

For organisations or individuals wishing to discuss the benefits of establishing a scholarship with the University of Aberdeen please contact Aimi Brown at the University of Aberdeen Development Trust by emailing aimi.brown@abdn.ac.uk .

“Fundraising income for the University of Aberdeen is channelled through the institution’s Development Trust which is an independent registered charity.  The Trust raises essential funds to support much of the University’s activities such as vital medical research as well as supporting students through the provision of scholarships, bursaries and facilities.
