This is a past event
This years Ladies' Lunch is taking place on Thursday 22nd September at the Marcliffe at Pitfodels.
This year we are delighted to be joined by Professor Steven D Heys, Dean of the new School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition. Prior to this Professor Heys was Co-Director of the IMS and Head of the Division of Applied Medicine. He developed joint collaborative interdisciplinary research projects working with other schools and different colleges and has played a major role in teaching for many years. Professor Heys also recently developed the Physician Assistant Programme. Professor Heys is a Consultant Surgeon with an interest in breast cancer and for the past 23 years he has treated many patients in the Grampian area.
Professor Heys will be joined by Professor Paul Haggarty, Deputy Director of the Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health. Professor Haggarty runs a research programme in the area of Diet, Epigenetics and Healthy Ageing. The aim of his research is to investigate the way in which diet and the environment interacts with genes to determine human health and healthy ageing. This includes work with a large cohort and case-controlled studies to determine how diet, lifestyle, and early life factors can effect the risk of breast cancer. Professor Heys and Professor Haggarty will discuss the latest research on how diet, lifestyle and life-history can influence genes in ways that predispose us to, and protect us against, cancer.
All monies raised from the Lunch will be used to support Breast Cancer Research at the University of Aberdeen, enabling our scientists to undertake vital research to better understand this disease, and improve diagnosis and treatment strategies for patients.
We would be delighted to see you at this year’s Ladies’ Lunch for an afternoon of good food, good company, music, and inspirational talks.
