What Transport-Related Energy is for: Investigating Mobility Practices with Sequence Analysis Techniques

The DEMAND Research Centre (Dynamics of Energy, Mobility and Demand) focuses on 'what energy is for', i.e. on the social practices that lead us to consume large (and often increasing) amounts of energy and greenhouse gases emissions. In this context, the contribution of CTR Aberdeen is to focus more specifically on trends and patterns in travel-related energy demand. The goal is to reconceptualise mobility practices and to study their rhythms with a quantitative approach, using innovative data analysis techniques applied to large existing datasets (time use and national travel surveys). The seminar will report on this work in progress.
