A one day mid-conference field excursion will take place on Tuesday 2nd May. This is designed to visit some classic locations for structural geology and promote continuing discussions between participants in the less formal setting of the field.
We will visit key locations in the NW Highlands Geopark, and include access to major thrust contacts and mylonites in the Moine thrust belt (Knockan), their representation in the landscape (Glencoul), imbricate thrust systems (Inchnadamph), high-grade, syn-magmatic shear zones (Laxford) and key outcrops of the Lewisian Complex. These are all within easy driving from the conference centre in Inverness. We will offer two itineraries. All locations are accessible to participants whose mobility may be limited. The cost of the field excursion will be included in the overall registration fee for the conference.
