Heather is a Project Officer in Public Engagement with Research at the University of Aberdeen. Her role is to help embed public engagement across the university and develop opportunities for engagement. Heather is the local lead for the EU NUCLEUS project focusing on the integration of Responsible Research and Innovation. Heather also co-ordinates PechaKucha Aberdeen, Cafe MED Aberdeen and has directed a number of public engagement programmes and initiatives.
She has a particular interest in the use of digital tools, including social media for public engagement and provides training and support in this area. She she was awarded a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Travel Fellowship to travel to the USA, Canada, China and Japan visiting organisations like NASA, Yale University, the University of Tokyo and Miraikan Science Centre to explore how social media can be used as a tool for public engagement with science. Before moving to Public Engagement with Research she was a PhD student in molecular pharmacology and co-founded and was editor for Au Science Magazine.
