Biography

About Me

Born and raised in Edinburgh, I am currently in the final year of my PhD research at the University of Aberdeen, having successfully completed a Research Masters at the University of Edinburgh. My current PhD research is funded by the University of Aberdeen and James Hutton Institute.

My research has brought me to engage, in both urban and rural environments, with affect and non/more-than representational theories. I am particularly interested in how people experience their everyday lives, and also how places become part of 'collective affects' or 'atmospheres'. This is currently leading me to consider conceptions of rurality.

2014-Present PhD, Working Title: 'Everyday Ruralities: The experience of ageing in Scotland', Supervisors: Dr Lorna Philip (The University of Aberdeen); Dr Mags Currie & Professor Deborah Roberts, The James Hutton Institute

2013-2014 MSc (By Research) in Human Geography. Thesis title: 'Deconstructing and détourning the authoritative discourses of the Leith Docks Redevelopment, Edinburgh', Supervisor: Dr Dan Swanton, The University of Edinburgh

2009-2013 BSc (Hons.) Geography. Dissertation Title: 'Nationalism, Iconography and Manned Spaceflight: How does nationalism, as expressed through the iconography of mission patches reflect and reify the discourses of manned spaceflight?', Supervisor: Dr Franklin Ginn, The University of Edinburgh
