Getting to Aberdeen

With so many transport options, Aberdeen & Aberdeenshire have never been easier to get to.

Aberdeen can be reached by road, rail, sea or sky and when you get here Aberdeenshire is easily accessible by public transport, taxi or car.

As the gateway to the Highlands, and only a 2.5 hours’ drive to Edinburgh or Glasgow, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are the perfect point to start your Scottish journey.

By Rail

Aberdeen’s railway station, right in the heart of the city, has frequent fast and reliable services to and from major cities. Travel on one of the hourly trains from Glasgow and Edinburgh or use the east coast line to travel from cities such as York or Newcastle.

Aberdeen can also be reached overnight from London on the Caledonian Sleeper. Visit the Caledonian Sleeper website for more information about this service.

London North Eastern Railway run services along the East Coast Main Line and frequently run trains from cities such as Edinburgh, York, Newcastle and London further details can be found on their website London North Eastern Railway

National Rail offers rail services to Aberdeen and the surrounding area, perhaps when you get here you may wish to travel to towns including Dyce, Inverurie and Huntly, visit National Rail for further details.

By Air

Aberdeen International Airport is located just six miles from Aberdeen city centre and is within easy reach of Aberdeenshire.

The region is well connected globally, Aberdeen is only two flights from almost anywhere in the world, with daily flights to all major airports with 5 connecting hubs:

  • London
  • Dublin
  • Amsterdam
  • Manchester
  • Cophenhagen

By Sea

Aberdeen Ferry Terminal is located at Jamieson's Quay directly across from the shopping centre, Union Square and the Aberdeen Railway Station.

The centrally located harbour is where ferries travel regularly to/from the Scottish Isles, Orkney and Shetland.

By Road

No matter where you start your journey in Scotland, Aberdeen & Aberdeenshire are simple to get to by car. Aberdeen is approximately 2.5 hours’ drive from Edinburgh or Glasgow and less than a three hour drive from Inverness. Well sign-posted, the surrounding area of Aberdeenshire is within close proximity of Aberdeen with the towns and villages easy to get to by major country and main roads. Tourist Information

Both Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire can be easily explored by most modes of transport with public buses operating throughout the area, railway stations dotted across the region and car hires readily available.

The area can also be explored by cycling or on foot. Aberdeen city is best explored by foot as key attractions are all within close proximity and this means you can get around quickly – if you do fancy cycling, you can cycle the Deeside or Donside cycle routes, which will offer you the chance to explore the region's magnificent heritage and stunning countryside views like no other.

Bus

From the Airport to City Centre

Stagecoach Bluebird Bus-Jet Service 727

The Jet Service 727 will take you direct from Aberdeen Union Square bus station to Aberdeen Airport terminal. The fleet of Jet 727 buses feature contactless payments, leather seats, free wi-fi and USB charging available on board. 

The service runs on a 10-minute frequency throughout the day Monday - Friday and up to every 20 minutes at the weekend. Running 7 days a week.

Fares: 

Aberdeen City Dayrider: £4.20 (valid for unlimited travel on service 727 all day) 
Aberdeen City 7 Day Megarider (one week): £14.20

Cash (change given), Contactless Card Payments, Mobile tickets with Stagecoach Bus App, Online (smart cards) Saltire Concession Card

Taxi

Taxi

A taxi from either Aberdeen Rail or Bus Station to the campus will cost cost around £10-15. From the airport to the campus can cost around £20-£30 depending on traffic and the time of day.
