Course Learning and Teaching Strategy: Learning and teaching will be carried out through lectures and hands-on workshop sessions. All concepts are introduced through real-life case studies. Case studies are drawn from engineering disciplines (structural, mechanical, aerospace, energy, oil & gas, construction and manufacturing) and beyond (waste reduction, job shop scheduling, route planning, energy efficiency, farming and operational planning). Towards the end of the course, trainees are given a real-life engineering problem to formulate in the form of an optimisation problem and solve it. Trainees may define their own cases based on existing problems in their workplace.
This applied course is focused on transferring new concepts and skills through real-life case studies rather than complex Mathematical formulations. Hence, trainees need minimal Maths background in order to benefit from this course.
