Biography

I am Abd Elamir Jaffal. I have graduated with an MSc. in Petroleum Engineering (by distinction) from University of Aberdeen in 2018. My dissertation topic was "Modelling drill-bit rock interaction for PDC cutters: Finite Element modelling". Then, I completed my MSc. (by research) in Mechanical Engineering in the same University. My research topic was "Design and testing of resonance enhanced scale milling tool for hard scales". Presently, I am assigned as an Honorary Research Assistant in the School of Engineering at the University of Aberdeen. My role includes, providing general support for research activities as required. Likewise, it involves developing methodologies appropriate to the research and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data. Furthermore, I am actively contributing to report writing and publications.

Through my internship, education, and work, I highly developed my written and verbal communication skills. Also, I worked with different teams and demonstrated good leadership. During my educational and practical journey, I have used my problem-solving skills in critical and serious situations. Currently, I am continually proving high-quality performance in sample analysis, regulatory compliance, report writing, and documentation. As well, I have been communicating effectively with a wide range of people by adapting to each situation. Now, I have strong ability to live abroad and adapt to different environments for extended periods of time. In addition to that, I am known to be flexible and motivated with high ethical standards especially at work.

Current Research

  • Research Topic: Design and Testing of Resonance Enhanced Scale Milling Tool for Hard Scales. The project’s aim was to develop and test a new Resonance Enhanced Scale Milling (RESM) tool, which was achieved by working with a research team in the Centre for Applied Dynamics Research (CADR) at the University of Aberdeen in association with Welltec.

Past Research

  • Generated a 3D finite element model of sandstone formation and PDC cutter using Abaqus software and calibrated it using the data collected in the CADR drilling lab
  • Evaluated the performance of PDC cutter under varying DOC, back rake angle, and cutting speed
Teaching

Courses
