In this 2 hour module we'll look at the many engagement and volunteering opportunities that exist in different sectors including charities and social enterprises. We'll explore the importance of good communications skills and the value of considering types of audience you are likely to encounter. Case studies will be used to give concrete examples of what others have done, and pave the way for you to choose relevant skills development courses from the many options offered by the Researcher Development Unit. Key content includes:-
- Overview of the local opportunities for engagement in Aberdeen and the local area
- Case studies of activities that others have undertaken, focusing in particular on postgraduate and early-career researcher led initiatives
- Practical exercise in how to plan an activity for a given audience including the practicalities of event creation and development, including budget, time implications and audience generation.
