Do CoyleMy lifelong interest in learning through more than one language is driven by commitment to an entitlement for all children to have successful and motivating plurilingual and pluricultural experiences of learning.

My passion to challenge current pedagogic thinking which limits policy and practice has driven me throughout my career as a teacher, teacher educator, academic and researcher to provide support for creating enriched learning contexts for global understanding. My pioneering work with European partners in the field of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) - sometimes referred to as bilingual education or immersion - has led to the 4Cs Conceptual Framework used by teachers globally.

My more recent research is located in the emerging field of educational linguistics, exploring how learners’ conceptual understanding and linguistic progression is rooted in the development of academic literacies across languages and across different ages and stages.
