Biography: Son of William S. Burns; born Aberdeen, 3 September 1895. M.A., 1915. Private, E Company, 4th Gordon Highlanders (T.F.), May 1911; transferred to R.A.M.C., attached to 1st Scottish General Hospital, May 1914. Mobilized, August 1914. Discharged to finish medical studies. Commissioned, R.A.M.C., October 1918. Home service, 1914-15; France (Y.M.C.A.), 1915; Salonika, Turkey in Asia, November 1918- . Final rank, Captain.
