Biography: Son of William Brown; born Kelso, 30 September 1890. M.A., I Class (dist), 1912; Liddel, Simpson Greek, Prizes; Seafield Latin, Town Council Gold, Medals; Ferguson, Fullerton, Scholar¬ships. I.C.S., 1913. War work—Recruiting, Madras Presidency, 1916-18. 2nd Lieutenant, Indian Army Reserve of Officers, attached to 1/88th Carnatic Infantry, 11 August 1918. Served—India, August 1918-February 1919. Final rank, 2nd Lieutenant.
