Macdonald, William MacMurray

Biography: Son of Mrs. M. Macdonald, 8 Rose Street, Nairn ; born Nairn, 1 March 1921 ; educated at Nairn Academy of which he was Dux in 1938. In 1939 he began an Arts course at the University. He joined the Royal Artillery, and after training volunteered and was accepted for the Maritime Branch. For a time he was on duty with deep-sea convoys mainly in the Atlantic, but later was transferred to a coasting vessel. He made several trips, but eventually his ship was sunk by enemy action. He was reported "Missing at Sea" on 24 February 1944.
