Macdonald, Alastair Edward

Biography: Son of Alexander and Isabel Macdonald, Kirkhill, Inverness ; born Canada, 1917 ; educated at Inverness Royal Academy. At the University he proved to be one of the best classical students of recent years, gaining most of the classical prizes and graduating in 1940 with First Class Honours. He was also awarded a Fullerton Scholarship. At the beginning of the war he enlisted in the Royal Artillery, and on being commissioned was posted to an anti-aircraft battery in this country. He was later sent to the Middle East, and on 10 April 1942 he was fatally wounded near Capuzzo during a bombing attack on his position.
