Biography: Son of John Howitt, Engineer-Commander (retired), and Hannah Runcie Howitt, of Macduff; born Macduff, 1915 ; educated at Banff Academy. In 1916 he graduated M.A. and later took the LL.B. degree. Called up in 1940 he entered Camberley College, Sandhurst, and was commissioned in the Gordon Highlanders. After service in this country he was sent abroad and was killed in action at the crossing of the Rhine on 20 February 1945.
