Butchart, Henry Jackson

Biography: Secretary to the University (appointed 1920). Son of James S. Butchart; born Aberdeen, 12 April 1882. B.L. (dist.), 1905. Enlisted, M.I. Company, Queens Rifle Volunteer Brigade (Royal Scots), 1905; 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Volunteer Battalion, Gordon Highlanders, 1907. Joined Scottish Horse. Mobilized, August 1914. Served with 2nd (R.) Regiment of Cavalry, Australian and New Zealand Light Horse and Mounted Rifles. Home, 1914-16; Egypt, Palestine, May 1916-March 1918; France, Belgium, April 1918-July 1919. Final rank, Major. D.S.O., 1918. Star of Roumania (Officer Class), 1919. Two mentions, January 1918, June 1918.
