Biography: Son of John S. Russell; born St. Abbs, 10 August 1897. B.Sc., 1921. Enlisted, 188 Special Company, Royal Engineers, 31 July 1915. Served - France, August 1915-June 1918; Home, July-December 1918. Final rank, Sergeant. Commissioned (after demobilization), Royal Scots, 11 March 1919.
